Fever Dreams

(The Horrorwalker Travel Guide: Zombie Edition Presents:)

Fever Dreams
(Austin, Texas)

My name is Beth Patterson.
I have had many fever dreams since my encounter with the Horrorwalker creature.
It visited me on last October 31, 2012... just as I left work that night.
It cornered me in the parking deck with my keys in my car door.
And it made me read this strange zombie tale.
The title of my personal Horrorwalker horror tale is: Scratching To The Surface!
It is published in the Horrorwalker book: ONE ZOMBIE ALIVE!
And I will never be the same woman again after reading that tale!
I now question every zombie trope I have ever entertained.
Here are some of the conclusions from my horror confusions.

***

It is September, now.
The weather is soon to be cooler.
The dead arise as the undead when the full moon glows in the crisp night air.
Monsters, things, creatures and humans scuttle about in the shadows.
And the things that scare us the most suddenly appear just behind us.
And they never say boo just before they bite your neck.
But all this talk is horror digression!
Now, let’s get down to this fantastic zombie business!

Don't real zombies rise from the dead because of supernatural causes?
Don't real zombies shamble slowly…
As they slyly pop up at unexpected places to attack and create the horror,
Or the terror?
Didn't zombies eating brains began with that nutty black horror comedy classic…
Return Of The Living Dead?
And are military grade zombie-like abominations really zombies?

And why have horror fans allowed directors,
Like Danny Boyle,
To hijack the term zombie when he has crazed UNDEAD humans…
Who run down cars like robot track stars.
And why have horror fans allowed directors,
Like Zack Snyder,
To hijack the term zombie when his creations are NOT the true undead…
Who can chase down prey with the speed and stamina of a horse?

As for Robert Kirkman with his The Walking Dead world?
I love that goddamn show!
I’ve watched every episode…
And have read the comic books from the various The Walking Dead Omnibus editions.
I have decided to wait until the television ends before I continue with the comics.
I need to keep myself ignorant of the comic book story to keep myself surprised.

The Walking Dead is television programming at its apex.
All the zombie tropes are there in perfection… except for --
What is the eventual origin of the zombie resurrections.
Are these zombies man made,
Or did a supernatural occurrence create the first zombie that attacked a human…
Who then turned into a flesh hungry creature that would then begin the cycle of…
Multiplying the population of the undead “Walkers.”
What insane horror must have been created in those first days?
I want to know what it is.

I have my own movie love that defines the zombie genre… for me!
I’m not trying to convince anyone else to do anything else.
These are all the thoughts inside my 54 year old non-zombie brain!
My defining horror movie is “ZOMBIE (ZOMBIE 2 is the original title)”…
Directed by one of THE true horror masters,
Lucio Fulci!

Inside my Arjayuniverse are quite a few zombie story blogs that I write stories for.
I follow the original norms of what makes a zombie a zombie.
Again, I’m just telling you a bit of what I know about zombies.
I’m telling you about what makes me love the zombie genre.
Make your own opinions and decisions…
Its your zombie world.

I will ask this question in closing…
All you zombie horror fans.
Who among you have seen the excellent Wes Craven zombie flick:
“The Serpent and the Rainbow?”
I was in my twenties in 1988 when this movie was released.
I remember this movie causing quite a few waves of reality fear…
As people began to think about what might create a REAL zombie.
Young people who want their zombies infected…
With a zombie virus... might not take this movie seriously,
But these are the ideas where zombie lore came from.

Anyway, The Serpent and the Rainbow is not my eponymous zombie flick.
That would be the movie, ZOMBIE!
Ever seen a zombie battle a shark at the bottom of the ocean?
That is just one of the outrageously over-the-top minds blowers in Zombie!
Check it out.
Now… just when does THE WALKING DEAD return to scare me silly?

My Horrorwalker Travel Guide tale is out there to be found.
I published my ONE ZOMBIE ALIVE tale because…
The Horrorwalker practically directed me to do so, and,
My story will come true one day and we all better be ready for it.

I never wanted to believe actual zombie monsters exist…
But they do!
And my fascination with them will never go away.
I just hope I never have to meet one face to face.
And I hope ONE ZOMBIE ALIVE tales are years away from an actuality.
Until then… I have to live in the now reality.
And so, bring on the television zombies until my real ones arrive.
For me, THE WALKING DEAD is survival practice on my television.
